FAQs About CBD and Our Products

What is the Difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate Oil?

Knowing the difference between these oils are key in when choosing what type of product is right for you.  Some contain a large portion of many different cannabinoids. Others have a specific amount of cannabinoids and some are concentrated into one type of cannabinoid.

Full Spectrum oils have the largest range of cannabinoids.  Most importantly, they contain the hallucinogenic cannabinoid THC, as well as other elements found in the cannabis plant.  When choosing the right product, this is a key characteristic because this product does contain small amounts of THC (less than .3% percent, mandated by the 2018 Farm Bill).  This cannabinoid has the ability to produce a positive drug screening result, even if you never feel the effect of its hallucinogenic properties. The recommended dosages of full spectrum oils usually do not produce psychedelic effects.  Some studies have shown that there are upsides of taking full spectrum oils, since it contains all the elements/compounds produced by the cannabis plant.

Broad Spectrum oils have been put through an extra extraction process to remove traces of the cannabinoid THC.  This extra process should result in the removal of any psychoactive effects. Even though the THC has been stripped from the oil, Broad Spectrum oils still contain essential compounds from the cannabis plant such as; terpenes, essential oils, and other cannabinoids (CBC, CBG, CBDV, CBN).  Broad Spectrum would be the prefered choice when considered a product that has non-detectable levels of THC as well as effectiveness.

Isolate oils are stripped of all other compounds besides a specifically targeted compound.  The most common isolate oil is CBD isolate. It contains 99% cannabidiol (CBD) and is usually found in CBD crystals or a fine powder.  CBD Isolate is versatile in its consumption, it can be used sublingually, inhaled, and ingested. Isolate is very useful for cooking to create CBD-infused foods and drinks.

Is CBD oil and Hemp Seed oil the same thing?  Is there a difference?

There is a distinct difference between CBD oil and Hemp oil.  Both are produced by two entirely different processes and, more importantly, two different parts of the cannabis plant!

Hemp Seed oil or Hemp oil is derived from the seeds of the Hemp plant (cannabis plants that are sold with less than .3% THC legally).  The process includes cleaning the seed to 99.99% than pressed to oil. Hemp seed oil can be beneficial to quality skin care.  It is highly nutritious and contains vitamins and fatty acids, which can help with eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and other skin-related conditions.

CBD oil has a different extraction process (CO2 extraction, CO2 method, ethanol washing, and other various extracting processes).  CBD, as well as other phytocannabinoids, come from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of the hemp plant. The extraction of these plant parts result in products that contain beneficial cannabinoids, essential oils, and terpenes.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The Endocannabinoid System or ECS is a biological system within our bodies that allow the interaction of molecules, such as; cannabinoids (THC, CBD, CBG), endocannabinoids (molecules produced by your body), receptors and enzymes, that result in homeostasis.  Homeostasis is a fundamental concept in the biological world. It is the overall goal of the body and all its systems to have balance and maintain optimal performance. The ECS has been seen as a vital component in maintaining homeostasis, which can result in therapeutic benefits.  The ECS remains active in your body even when you are not using cannabis! The ECS was identified in the 1990s when scientists were researching THC and is still being heavily explored today.

Are CBD products safe for my pets?  What are they used for?

Although there is currently no formal research of CBD and its effects on pets, there is anecdotal evidence that CBD can be beneficial to your pet.  It is important to note there has not been anecdotal evidence reported for major safety concerns or negative side effects when administering to pets. Some possible side effects may include dry mouth, lowered blood pressure, and drowsiness when giving CBD to dogs.

Currently, the Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is conducting a study on the use of CBD in treatment-resistant epileptic dogs.  This is to be seen as one of the first concrete studies on the use of CBD and dogs with this condition.
